Windows activation errors — what they mean and how to fix them

You have entered the product key and Windows returns an error code. In most cases this does not mean the key is bad — it means something does not match. Here are the most common messages and what lies behind them.
First: three checks before anything else
- Does the edition match? A Pro key does not activate an installed Home, and vice versa. Check in Settings → System → About.
- Does the version match? A Windows 10 key does not activate Windows 11.
- Is there an internet connection? Activation goes through Microsoft's servers and requires a connection.
These three checks cover a large share of cases.
0xC004C060 and similar codes
The key was not accepted by the activation server. Most often this is a mistake in entering a character — copy the key directly from the email, without trailing spaces. If it persists, try from the command prompt as an administrator:
slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
slmgr /ato
0x803FA067 and an invalid licence message
This usually means a mismatch between the key and the installed edition. Check exactly which version is installed and whether the key is for it.
Windows was activated but no longer is — after a hardware change
Activation is tied to the machine's hardware profile. Replacing a motherboard or processor detaches it. Open Settings → Activation → Troubleshoot. If the licence was linked to a Microsoft account, select “I changed hardware on this device recently”. If it was not — enter the key again.
The key is already in use
If you have transferred the licence from another computer, wait a few hours — the release is sometimes registered with a delay. If you have not — write to us.
Activation drops after a while
If Windows was active and then deactivates weeks later for no reason, this usually involves a corporate key used out of its context, or a KMS activator with a limited term. This is not fixed by entering the key again — a valid key is needed.
How to check the status
slmgr /xpr — shows whether the activation is permanent or expires.
slmgr /dli — shows the licence type (RETAIL, OEM, VOLUME).
If you see an expiry date, the activation is not permanent.
When to write to the seller
If you have been through the checks and the problem remains, the problem is not at your end. With us, write to info@litsenzi.bg with your order number and a picture of the message. If we cannot solve the problem, you get a free replacement and, if necessary, a refund.
